Living in NYC
Being MD/PhD students in NYC has been so rewarding and we want to tell you why!
Academically there are many institutions which means more access to resources. There are conferences, volunteer opportunities, and work shops that are available to medical and graduate students throughout the city. For example, we participated in a neurosurgery workshop last semester.
This city never sleeps which means we can study late and still have time to explore the city. It is easy to maintain a social life in your 20’s when everything stays open late and when everything is so close to you. There is so much going on in this city that we can make the most out of the little amount of free time we have. These are some of our favorite places:
Daytime
The Frick Museum
The MOMA
Rubin Museum of Art
Central Park
Bike along the Hudson River
Brooklyn Bridge Park
Eataly
Nightlife
Cecconi’s
BondSt
L’ Artusi
Lilia
Emily
Dear Irving
Raines Law Room
Attaboy
Bathtub Gin
Common Ground
Paul’s Baby Grand
Soho Grand
Jimmy at the James
ACME
This city has a massive crowd! We meet new people everyday. People with similar and very different cultures! This allows us to learn, grow and network.
NYC is a transportation hub. Since it is such a popular city we have three different airports and multiple train systems to get us around. When we want to get out of the city we are just a train ride away from hiking, beaches, and wineries or a plane ride home (or abroad-if we are feeling adventurous).
